Autodesk's Data Exchange app moves your disconnected workflows toward more-seamless cloud interoperability between the design tools you use every day, whether they be CAD tools or building information modeling (BIM) and 3D modeling apps (like AutoCAD software, Revit software, Tekla, Rhino, and Inventor software). In this class, you'll learn how you can use Data Exchange to curate, securely share, view, and manage design data across these apps and multiple stakeholders—with specific focus on AutoCAD and Revit interoperability. We'll explore how Data Exchange can simplify BIM/3D model-to-drawing sharing and generation, can move data more selectively and effectively from 2D to 3D, and can open the door to more-streamlined model audits and quantity takeoff (QTO).

Civil 3D software has dominated infrastructure and renewable energy sectors for many years. Industry has both adopted the native functionality but also expanded it with custom applications over the years, which has created cross-interoperability challenges. Currently moving toward digital-twin efficient data flows beyond design and constructions phases is becoming increasingly important. In this class, we will showcase how—with the help of Autodesk Data Exchange—we can break the silos and enable the transition toward digital twins.

In this session, we'll explore how building information modeling (BIM) automation techniques have been used to create 15,000+ generative designs for critical water and power infrastructure projects using Revit software. You will learn which tools are available for design automation efforts, including generative algorithms and artificial intelligence, and how these techniques plus Revit are helping owners and engineers automatically assess the most climate-resilient infrastructure options in the preliminary design phase of projects. We'll showcase specific examples of how Revit is being used to serve underrepresented communities in Brazil that are most impacted by climate change—focusing on the automatic generation of embedded carbon calculation documentation, CAPEX/OPEX tables, 3D models, and more, for wastewater treatment plants and electrical substations.

If you want to produce mechanical drawings that are intelligent and easy to manage, this class is for you. You'll learn how to reuse intelligent mechanical objects across multiple drawings, and how to build and export a component database that integrates with your ERP system. Insert an automatic parts list with an exact count, and watch as the Bill of Materials (BOM) updates itself intelligently with new or modified mechanical components. In addition, you'll discover how to annotate more-accurate and consistent designs by accessing standardized symbols that automatically update when design changes are made. Want to insert standard-based title blocks with different scale factors? No problem. You'll also learn how to create and update designs by defining foreground and background objects, as well as how to automatically generate hidden lines with specific layer management. You'll acquire valuable skills to create mechanical designs with ease and efficiency, saving you countless hours.

During this presentation we'll explain how to set up assets based on design files. We'll explore how to determine which assets need to be defined and what data can be associated in order for successful commissioning during the construction phase. We'll start by looking at how we can extract data from Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD software, and how we can prepare for assets import using the model-based workflow. As assets get installed in rooms and spaces, it's also critical to find a way to tie them to an LBS (location breakdown structure). Once we've defined these assets within Autodesk Construction Cloud, we'll show a way of creating a bidirectional link between the object in the design file and the Autodesk Construction Cloud database. We'll finish up using asset color coding on the 3D model, and run some reports we can use to show the progress of commissioning these objects.

The presentation will cover the 4D management of hundreds of machine installations, each with various stages of preparation work required. Previously the workflow involved comparing 2D AutoCAD layouts to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. First, we'll define the prerequisites of having a Factory Design Utilities layout, where the machines are individually laid out in 3D. The layout will then be imported into Navisworks software and prepared for the TimeLiner function. Then, we'll export a schedule as a .CSV with all the necessary details. Next, we'll import the file into Navisworks for the TimeLiner function. We'll show the process of making links, and explain all other necessary setup parameters. We'll run the sim, and export the viewport into a .PPT for distribution. In closing, you'll see an update to the original layout which then reflects in the end results. And we'll even include a change in schedule, to emulate logistical issues. The workflow helps with collaborative agile planning.

In the post-pandemic era, we still find that supporting distributed teams of employees, project partners and customers located in offices, on the road, and working at home is still a challenge – especially when it comes to ensuring high performance access to project files and their security. This is further exasperated by systems we rushed to implement during the pandemic, mergers and acquisitions taking place in the industry, and a desire to continue leveraging a best-of-breed global workforce. Both software tools can coexist, and Autodesk is at the forefront of industry evolution, ensuring smooth and conscious transitions. You can incorporate AutoCAD details into your Revit project using various methods, including long-term, mid-term, and temporary solutions. Some approaches are more effective than others and may even lead to issues.
