Fabrication Data Manager is the new cloud-based offering that enables database management in the cloud. Built on the Autodesk Platform Services platform (formerly Forge), the new UI facilitates intuitive visual management for collaboration and consumption in both Revit software and Fabrication authoring products.

Sabesp is the largest sanitation company in the Americas and one of the largest in the world. It is responsible for water supply and sewage collection in 375 municipalities, serving 28+ million people. The company's large numbers are accompanied by complex challenges. This presentation will explore the experience of an ambitious corporate building information modeling (BIM) implementation program, in its first wave of implementation. This implementation has as one of its main objectives the development of and access to asset information with a focus on commissioning. The program is in its second year of implementation, and you'll be able to check the advances obtained in themes that include: development of libraries and templates, development of unified processes for the use of a common data environment [Autodesk Construction Cloud, Autodesk Docs, and Autodesk Platform Services (formerly Forge)], GeoBIM integration (Autodesk and Esri/GE SmallWorld), and BIM and ERP (SAP) integration. The entire technology base used in this implementation is supported by Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection from Autodesk.

Arkio is a design tool used to bring your ideas and conceptual building designs to life inside virtual reality (VR). VR lets you immerse yourself in the creative process by freely walking around your design or stretching a wall with simple hand gestures. In this class, we will take a deep dive into the Forge Design Automation for Revit API to show how users can easily load their latest BIM 360 Revit models into VR and make design changes that are pushed back to Revit and BIM 360 in a collaborative way. We will demonstrate the following: loading Revit models via BIM 360 and the Design Automation API into Arkio; performing live collaborative design inside Arkio on top of existing Revit models using mobile VR headsets, tablets, and phones; loading and working with additional data such as program area requirements; and exporting new design ideas as native Revit masses/families via the Revit Design Automation API.

This masterclass will cover how to link PlanGrid with next-generation BIM 360 Docs software by utilizing the power of data collection through BIM 360 workflows and PlanGrid field reports. The speaker will be able to demonstrate the added benefit of being able to maximize data for trend analysis via Microsoft Power Bi and automatic modeling by integrating the output with Dynamo software. We will cover basic principles of PlanGrid and usability for the average user, alongside best practices, work-arounds, shortcuts, limitations, and benefits. We will explore an array of case studies, giving live project application examples and how they’ve integrated with external tools, such as What3Words.

Federal, state, local, and city governments are setting ambitious targets for reducing energy consumption of existing buildings through building retrofits. A challenge has been the scaling of energy analysis across large building portfolios in order to identify and prioritize the buildings and retrofit measures. Prior methods were limited to single buildings, but this session will introduce new capabilities that enable evaluation of entire building portfolios with minimal data inputs required. Results are presented dynamically in the context of a digital model and a custom Forge-based building portfolio management dashboard that serves as an executive summary for users or consumers of the rapid energy modeling (REM) tools, and enables easier communication and understanding of the workflow and results with clients. The session is intended for owners and managers, including the Department of Defense (DoD); federal, state, and local government; airports; higher education; architectural firms; and planning entities.

The industry is moving from mass production to customized solutions, creating a tremendous increase in the demand for custom BIM (Building Information Modeling) software solutions. However, custom solutions are expensive to develop. With Forge, you can build custom BIM configurators with minimum investment and time. We created a custom simulation app for HVAC professionals to produce a sustainable design. The app simulates the performance of design spaces and HVAC systems configuration in the cloud. The class will demonstrate how to use Forge to create a new user-defined office build space. We will elaborate on how the assembly of complex 3D HVAC system configurations can be created. You will see how Revit design automation APIs can construct an accurate intelligent model on the server. Attendees will learn these techniques, as well as how to create vast varieties of online BIM system configurators such as kitchen design, furniture design, infrastructure design, and others.

In this class, we will introduce you to BIM 360 Docs software’s API. BIM 360 Docs software is a cloud-based document management system tailored specifically for construction projects. As the document at the center of BIM 360 family products, BIM 360 Docs software promises to play an important role for unified development of the BIM 360 mobile and web platform. BIM 360 Docs software provides an API as a part of the Forge Platform Data Management API. Using the Forge Platform API, you can access documents stored in BIM 360 Docs software, display models using the Viewing API, and search data in the model. Using the API, for example, you can automate updating models from external applications, make a report to keep track of a team’s progress, and connect your own web services applications with BIM 360 Docs projects. We will show you how to get started with the BIM 360 Docs API, share examples of use cases, and demonstrate what you can do using the BIM 360 Docs API. This session features BIM 360 Docs and Forge. Last year we brought you “Tips, Tricks, and the Future for Forge Model Derivative Services.” We’re bringing even more goodies to this year’s presentation. We will include more details around the Revit flag to generate rooms and spaces for viewing. We will cover how you can use the model derivative data to do model version comparison. Finally, again we will preview some of the coming features in Model Derivative Service, including the improved SVF2 Forge Viewer format.

This class will describe Goldbeck's experience in the development of their very own cloud services for the automation of model checking. Goldbeck's BIM (Building Information Modeling) department is cooperating with Autodesk in the definition and creation of a framework for automating the execution of standard checks. The project aims at capitalizing on cloud computing to increase the overall quality level and free up resources for other tasks.

Design Automation for Inventor software generally enables the desktop APIs to be used in the cloud—similar to how they would work on the desktop, but without the need of any installed software or dependent licenses. An additional, easily overlooked advantage of Design Automation for Inventor is its capability to run iLogic scripts in the cloud. These scripts being embedded in the CAD file itself can be programmed to auto execute under certain conditions. This class will address taking advantage of this capability to combine the Forge Design Automation API with iLogic to create a configurator by modifying an input Inventor file (IPT) in the cloud, according to the inputs provided by the user on an easy-to-use user interface. The results can be viewed immediately on a web browser using the Forge Viewer API, and are available for download in multiple formats such as IPT, IDW, and PDF. This web application sample uses the latest web technologies and is OS independent and mobile-device friendly.

"The design and construction process today generates valuable information. But the sheer number of sources, systems, tools and players complicates workflows and creates inefficiencies by generating duplicate data in silo-ed workflows. JE Dunn has been able to integrate various disparate platforms and develop a 'single source of truth', for their entire ecosystem. Document management and control for construction is an ever-evolving challenge. Trying to meet standards, naming conventions, and the approval process all provide challenges of their own. BIM 360 Docs software gives us one piece of the puzzle and Forge software is the other. Within the industrial water market, it can be a real challenge to bridge the gap between tools that are great for designing buildings and tools that are great for designing process plants. Achieving design synchronization between spatial and schematic designs with a high level of confidence is the ultimate goal. However, producing process schematics and spatial drawings and managing the equipment data becomes complex when dealing with traditional data silos in current project execution processes. True data-driven workflows will require innovation and disruption to achieve next-level results. This is one story of how Revit software, Dynamo, and Forge have helped us look at this traditional problem from a new perspective. We’ve solved some longstanding challenges, and we still have some unanswered questions, but we’re excited and optimistic about the possibilities for the future.
